Volunteer Engagement Manager

The Volunteer Engagement Manager is primarily responsible for the management of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Lane County, a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), targeting persons 55 years+ to serve their communities through volunteer service.  The RSVP program has been active in Lane County for decades, but is entering a new chapter with partners focused on education, and recruiting active retirees to advance the success of their programs (and student success!).  The manager will also participate in other general volunteer engagement and recognition activities with the team at United Way of Lane County (UWLC).  Both aspects of the job focus on connecting volunteer talent with community needs through program development, implementation, management, evaluation, and sustainability efforts. 

Primary Responsibilities

Management of the RSVP Program:

  • Recruit, place, retain, support, and recognize RSVP volunteers (individual volunteers age 55+).
  • Partner with non-profit organizations that utilize RSVP volunteers to ensure the volunteer recruitment efforts meet the organization's needs and are set up for volunteer success.
  • Manage and use volunteer reporting systems including Volunteer Reporter software and UWLC's Volunteer Connections Website.
  • Oversight of all RSVP grant requirements, including: compliance with financial and programmatic reporting requirements; preparation of annual RSVP budget with UWLC's CFO; review of financial reports to verify proper account coding; tracking in kind support; and maintaining program records in accordance with CNCS mandates.
  • Support the RSVP Advisory Council.

 

ProgramCommunity Volunteer Engagement and Recognition:

  • In partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator, engage in the broader volunteer services that UWLC provides -- connecting volunteers with non-profit organizations to meet our community's needs.
  • Support the Volunteer Selection Committee (responsible for selecting the Volunteer(s) of hte Month featured in the Register Guard), including meeting preparation, scheduling, and follow up.
  • Coordinate our annual volunteer recognition event (Volunteer of the Year Luncheon) with The Register Guard, Volunteer Selection Committee, and United Way Staff.
  • Identify, initiate, and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders including youth, seniors (including the RETIRE UNITED affinity group), and United Way partner agencies.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through speaking opportunities, tabling events, community outreach, site visits, and online including UWLC's Volunteer Connections Website.
  • Help continue to improve volunteer department evaluation, processes, and systems.

Previous Expeirence
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience that includes volunteer management, collaboration, program development, administration and fiscal oversight.  Work with individuals 55+ and the nonprofit community preferred.

Education
Bachelor's degree

Qualifications

  • Must be enthusiastic about volunteerism, with experience supervising volunteers. 
  • High-energy individual, who takes initiative, maintains a positive outlook and can embrace change.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail while managing multiple tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective listening skills with an ability to relate to a diverse group of individuals or organizations in an effective manner.
  • Successful project management experience from conception to implementation.
  • Dependable, flexible and good natured with strong professional work habits.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse high-performance team.
  • An understanding of and experience with nonprofit volunteer organizations.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in contract development, management, monitoring and evaluation is preferred.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite.  Database experience is preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.Travel by car is required.

Physical
Sitting or standing continuously for periods of four hours, communicate verbally, communicate in writing, faculty of seeing and hearing, operate keyboard. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.  Occasional bending, squatting, at ground level.  Occasional reaching above shoulder level to reach supplies overhead.  Continuous use of hands in repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, twisting/turning of wrists; finger dexterity to perform various duties such as data entry, writing, continuous speaking and hearing for interactions with volunteers and coworkers.  Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for normal daily computer tasks.

Mental
Interpersonal interactions, problem solving, analyzing and evaluating, decision making, discretion/confidentiality, math skills, teamwork, handling of multiple tasks. Ability to conceptualize and set operational goals and objectives for the department. Frequent use of judgment, reasoning, patience, and negotiating in working with volunteers and coworkers.

Environmental
Work is performed in an office environment but also requires mobility within the office.  Required to travel to other facilities and various locations for job related training, meetings and events.

Salary Range:  $18 - $20 per hour                                                             

Position Status:  Full time, Non-Exempt Grade 3

** NOTE: This is a grant funded position currently approved for a 3-year period, starting April 1, 2018 March 31, 2021, with potential for renewal (although not guaranteed) or potential to be cut short if any changes to CNCS are made at the Federal level.  Also note, no relocation assistance is available.   More details available during the interview process. **
