Finance Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Manager provides guidance and oversight for the accounting and compliance of grants and projects, including but not limited to, post award grant accounting, budget modifications, ensuring compliance with funding source administrative guidelines, timely receipt of grant and contract revenue, accurate submission of financial and other related reports, and monitoring and reporting. Works with the Chief Financial Officer and program personnel to establish accounting, operating and compliance guidelines.

This position works closely with operations and community impact staff and with all UWLC staff and departments; businesses; donors; nonprofit agency partners; community service groups; government agencies. This position is connected to and engaged with peer Local United Ways and United Way Worldwide colleagues for continuous learning, growth and consideration of new ideas.

Work time approximately:

  • In Office: 60%
  • Remote: 40%

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:

  • Ground efforts in anti-racism, systemic oppression, equity, wealth disparity, intersectionality, and other areas important to social justice.
  • Supervises: This position does not supervise others at this time.
  • Manage externally funded awards from federal, state, and local governments, private foundations, and collaborating partners.
  • Maintain and updating grant budgets and grant financial records.
  • Performs invoicing and billing functions to sub-grantees, partners, and funding agencies.
  • Develop, manage and track grant related contracts.
  • Monitor grants, resolve accounting and reporting issues as necessary, prepare budget versus actual status reports for use by program personnel as requested, identify issues, concerns and problems and communicate with CFO and Program personnel.
  • Monitor grant reporting deadlines and requirements.
  • Provide guidance regarding the allowability of costs to be charged to grants. Review all reimbursement requests for appropriateness and ensure the sub grantees are in compliance with established administrative and financial policies, procedures, and sound business practices.
  • Counsel and assist all sub-grantees to ensure appropriate reports are filed, established controls are in place and all grant requirements are being met; and to perform sub-grantee monitoring to document compliance.
  • Perform financial data analyses as needed.
  • Prepare audit worksheets, schedules, reports and supporting documentation to be used during the annual audit and any grant compliance audits.
  • Serve as resource to program and finance staff, partners, funders and sub-grantees on matters involving finance and administration with a high level of customer service.
  • Perform other relevant duties and special projects as requested.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements include:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and grant accounting as well as general accounting, compliance and financial reporting.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting principles including reporting requirements, compliance, and procedures related to federal, state, and other grants.
  • Experience in working with the principles of not-for-profit accounting and dealing with the financial aspect of grants, federal and other is desired.
  • Proficiency in using various database, accounting software, complex excel spreadsheet, word, and on-line research.
  • Attention to detail, precision and follow through.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, analytical and problem-solving skills, a must.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted salary range for this position is currently $24 to $25 per hour. Proffered salaries are determined by several factors including applicant's knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
