Equity and Engagement Manager

Position Primary Purpose: To oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of tasks and duties related to internal and external equity and community engagement initiatives. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while working with multiple departments, and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced environment with complex work is a necessity. 

Primary Functions

  • Create and implement strategies, policies, practices, and partnerships to advance United Way of Lane County's (UWLC) and the Lane Early Learning Alliance's (ELA)equity and community engagement goals
  • Identify and build strategic partnerships between United Way of Lane County and the Lane Early Learning Alliance and other community based organizations, governmental agencies, healthcare providers, schools, non-profit agencies, businesses, faith communities and community organizations focused on equity and engagement goals and strategies
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion related trainings for UWLC staff, UWLC board members, ELA stakeholders and workgroups, and other partners as needed
  • Coordinate and facilitate UWLC/ELA Equity Advisory Committee
  • Represent UWLC/ELA on community coalitions, collaborations and initiatives that align with United Way's equity and community engagement goals and strategies
  • Use data to identify community gaps as they relate to serving United Way/ELA's priority populations
  • Use data and develop metrics to track outcomes and measure progress.
  • Keeps current on diversity, equity and inclusion programs and efforts by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts)

Secondary Functions

  • Provide equity related project support, as needed, to Community Impact, Resource Development, and Operations
  • Provide responsive, courteous assistance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consistently read and respond to all correspondence, including emails.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and work in other departments as required.

Previous Experience

One to three years' experience as noted below

Education

Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, ethnic studies, cultural diversity, human resource management, public administration or closely related field.

One to three years' experience in community engagement, working with diverse populations, and preparation and implementation of training materials and diversity initiatives; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated Abilities  

  • An understanding of systemic equity issues based on either a personal bicultural experience or if not, a deepened awareness of it
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, either within coalition work or a comparable setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in grammar, spelling, and editing/proofreading.
  • Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills. and desire to provide excellent customer service.
  • Dependable, flexible and good natured with strong professional work habits.
  • Existing familiarity with local nonprofits focused on underserved populations
  • Proficiency using, Microsoft Office Suite and databases is preferred
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently
Physical

Sitting or standing continuously for periods of four hours, communicate verbally, communicate in writing, faculty of seeing and hearing, operate keyboard. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.  Occasional bending, squatting, at ground level.  Occasional reaching above shoulder level to reach supplies overhead.  Continuous use of hands in repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, twisting, turning of wrists; finger dexterity to perform various duties such as data entry, writing.  Continuous speaking and hearing for interactions with volunteers and coworkers.  Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for normal daily computer tasks. 

Mental

Interpersonal interactions, problem solving, analyzing and evaluating, decision making, discretion/confidentiality, math skills, teamwork, handling of multiple tasks. Frequent use of judgment, reasoning, patience, and negotiating in working with volunteers and coworkers.

Environmental

Work is performed in an office environment but also requires mobility within the office.  May be required to travel to other facilities and various locations for job related training, meetings and events.

Position Status:  Full time, Non-Exempt, Grade 3

Salary Range:  $17 - $20 per hour
